Thoughtful Planting Selection

When consulting with expert landscapers, they will consider the local climate and soil conditions, ensuring that they choose the best plants to thrive in your specific area. By incorporating a diverse range of plants, you can have a visually appealing backyard with varying colors, textures, and heights. In particular, native plants are adapted to the local environment and require less maintenance, making them an excellent choice for sustainable landscaping. Plus, they tend to attract local wildlife and contribute to the overall ecological balance of your backyard.

Functional Outdoor Living Spaces

When planning your backyard design, consider incorporating designated areas for relaxation, entertainment, and dining. This could include building a paver patio or deck, creating a cozy seating area, or adding an outdoor kitchen or barbeque area. By incorporating these functional elements, you can extend your living space to the outdoors, providing a perfect setting for family gatherings, socializing with friends, or simply enjoying the tranquility of nature. Your landscape company can help you integrate these spaces seamlessly into your backyard, to maximize its usability and your enjoyment of it.

A well-designed walkway can guide visitors through your garden while adding structure and defining different areas. Retaining walls can help with soil erosion and create terraced levels, adding depth and dimension to your landscape. A pergola can offer a reprieve from the sun by providing dappled shade and a place to put creeping vines on display. By blending such elements seamlessly into your backyard design, professional landscapers can create a harmonious balance between natural and man-made elements.

Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lighting not only enhances the beauty of your backyard but also extends its functionality into the evening hours. With the right lighting design, you can establish an inviting atmosphere, highlight key features, and ensure safety around your outdoor spaces. Your landscapers can strategically place lighting fixtures to accentuate architectural elements, trees, and pathways of your outdoor space. They will consider various lighting techniques, such as uplighting, downlighting, and path lighting, to create a visually stunning and well-illuminated backyard that can be enjoyed long into the night.

Water Features

Integrating water features into your backyard landscaping can add a sense of tranquility and serenity to your outdoor spaces. Whether it’s a cascading waterfall, a serene pond, or a bubbling water fountain, a water feature can serve as a focal point in a landscape design. Your landscape designer can design and construct water features that complement your overall backyard aesthetic and fit within the available space.

About the Author

It was in the early 1970s that Phil Munro was introduced to the landscape industry. His dad, Don Munro, purchased a dump truck to deliver materials and install small landscape jobs when he had free time after work and on the weekends, and he’d bring Phil along with him. After serving in the U.S. Navy in the 1980s, Phil built on this experience to start Munro Landscaping in 1987. In 1991, he incorporated as Munro’s Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance. Over the years he developed many relationships with suppliers and builders, and the company experienced massive growth: It expanded the lawn division and started a landscape construction division in the ’90s.
